politically, butte has been historically democratic-majority city, , silver bow county 1 of greatest democratic-majority counties in montana. in 1996, haley beaudry became first republican butte elected city legislature since 1950. in 2010, max yates next butte republican elected legislature; however, neither beaudry or yates re-elected. in 2014, butte became third city in montana pass anti-discrimination ordinance protecting lgbt residents , visitors discrimination in employment, housing , public accommodations.
