on july 1st, 2015 motor transportation police division (mtd) , special investigation division (sid) merged within state police division per legislative action. officers , agents commissioned new mexico state police officers , removed state s employee classified system exempt system. state police in process figure efficient , fiscally responsible way implement uniform, vehicle , policy changes commissioned officers. of november 2015, decision change dps vehicles , uniforms match current state police identity issued chief. larger districts such albuquerque , las cruces see cars, uniforms , badges issued out field first.


as of 2017 uniforms, badges , vehicles (older higher mileage units being phased out) have been replaced traditional new mexico state police identity.
