byrd released first single, s thing memory , in 1992. although , follow-up give love (previously single in 1971 johnny paycheck) both missed top 40, broke through in 1993 number 1 hit holdin heaven . song third release self-titled debut album, released mca on april 27, 1993. although album earned riaa gold certification, final single ( why don t telephone ring ) peaked @ no. 39. keith stegall , tony brown shared production duties on album.

no ordinary man title of byrd s second album, produced jerry crutchfield. highest selling, earning double-platinum certification u.s. sales of 2 million copies. 4 singles album reached top five: lifestyles of not rich , famous , watermelon crawl (also first entry on billboard hot 100, @ no. 81), first step , keeper of stars . last song, love ballad, became popular choice fans use @ weddings. won song of year @ country music association in 1995. mca had not planned issue song single, until byrd commented had been receiving favorable reactions when sang in concert.
love lessons

byrd released final studio album mca, m country, in late 1997. title track, co-written richard young of kentucky headhunters , former mca records artist marty brown, became first single. song added album, titled walkin line, after rest of album had been completed. became ninth top 10 hit reaching no. 3 in 1998 , first no. 1 on rpm country tracks charts in canada. 1 other single, no. 9 hit wanna feel way again , released album.
in 1999, byrd released greatest-hits package entitled keepers: greatest hits, certified gold. album led off no. 31 single when mama ain t happy before left label.
