scandinavian airlines

scandinavian airlines founded on 1 august 1946 when flag carriers of denmark, sweden , norway formed partnership handle intercontinental traffic scandinavia. operations started on 17 september 1946. det norske luftfartselskab (dnl) former norwegian flag carrier founded in 1927. companies embarked on coordination of european operations in 1948 , merged form current sas consortium in 1951. upon foundation airline divided between sas danmark (28.6%), sas norge (28.6%) , sas sweden (42.8%), owned 50% private investors , 50% respective governments. sas gradually acquired control of domestic markets in 3 countries acquiring full or partial control of several local airlines. ownership structure of sas changed in june 2001, holding company being created in holdings of governments changed sweden (21.4%), norway (14.3%) , denmark (14.3%) , remaining 50% publicly held , traded on stock market.

braathens founded on march 26, 1946. many years, braathens known braathens s.a.f.e, latter part being acronym standing south american , far east, destinations braathens served. company founded norwegian ship owner ludvig g. braathen, intention of serving ships in other parts of world. in 2001 braathens formed alliance klm , northwest airlines. alitalia supposed join alliance, later decided not to. braathens dropped safe name, , company known braathens until 2004. in 2001, after tough economic times, braathens bought scandinavian airlines system (sas), although able keep operating under name until sas braathens became operative 1 april 2005.

the first months of 2006 marked conflict, , ill pilots caused several flights cancelled. negotiations between cabin personnel , management failed on 6 april, leading strike grounding of flights, though deal between management , unions ended strike on april 8.


by 2007 airline 1 of norway s prominent companies, lack of reliability caused number of cancelled , delayed flights has put airline @ bottom of 140 norwegian companies ranked consumer confidence. april 2006 strike benefitted sas braathens main competitor, norwegian air shuttle.


sas braathens ceo petter jansen forced leave office in june 2006 after disputes sas management in stockholm, causing controversy , debate in norway, since petter jensen leading national branch of scandinavian airlines made profit.


however, in 2007 airline rebranded sas norge.
