raghava rama s son s lava , kusa, inherited each half of kosala kingdom, ayodhya capital. thus, kosala split 2 parts; 1 ruled lava, capital @ sravasti, north of ayodhya , other kusa @ kusavati, believed towards east of ayodhya.

eastern kosala

this was, kingdom ruled kusa, kusavati capital. (see mbh 2.14, mbh 2.21, referred below). described fleeing southern country of kuntis due magadha king jarasandha. route taken bhima, arjuna , krishna kuru kingdom magadha kingdom through eastern kosala.


northern kosala

this was, kingdom ruled lava sravasti capital. (see mbh 2.29 referred below). kingdom defeated pandava general bhima, in military campaign east.


kosala kingdom of vrihadvala south of ayodhya

vriahadvala kosala king mentioned general under duryodhana, in kurukshetra war. (mbh. 5.277, 5.198).this kingdom defeated pandava general bhima, in military campaign east. (mbh 2.29). seems kosala had power extended neighbouring kingdom of kasi south of it, because vrihadvala commanded troops kasi in kurukshetra war. reason consider kasi-kosala single kingdom. period of time in past, kasi have been vassal state of kosala kingdom. grandmothers of kauravas , pandavas called princesses of kasi , times princesses of kosala, attesting fact.


kosala ayodhya capital or central kosala

this original kosala ruled king raghava rama. ruled dirghayaghna, during era. kingdom defeated pandava general bhima, in military campaign east. (mbh 2.29).


kingdoms sprang southern kosala

the native kingdom of raghava rama s mother kausalya, considered dakshina kosala kingdom split @ least 2 during era of kurukshetra war. became evident if follow passage in mahabharata, describing military campaign of pandava general sahadeva, led troops southern direction. (mbh. 2.30)


western kosala in central india

this kingdom close vidarbha kingdom ruled bhishmaka, east of it. sahadeva defeated kingdom first , moved eastern kosala. (mbh. 2.30)


eastern kosala in central india

after defeating other kosala kingdom sahadeva defeated numerous kings in eastern kosala, indicating there many kingdoms, , not one, collectively known eastern kosalas. (mbh. 2.30)
