mark king helped develop , popularize slap , pop style of playing bass guitar in 1980s. slapping , popping style developed in 1970s funk bassists such larry graham , further developed jazz fusion bassists such stanley clarke , marcus miller. king developed rapid playing speed using technique, , introduced technical elements enabled him produce mix of percussive effects while still playing bass line.


one of king s greatest influences musician tom taylor, gave king guitar lessons when king 12.


king s bass playing style largely based on continuous 16th notes (aka semiquavers), described machine-gun style. machine-gun style consists of playing rapidly using combination of thumb slaps, pops, hammer-ons, , fretting hand slaps.


king took part in comedy skit titled easy guitar book sketch comedian rowland rivron , fellow british musicians mark knopfler, lemmy motörhead, david gilmour , gary moore.
