the forestmen theme introduced in 1987 when lego castle released first forestmen set 6066 camouflaged outpost. set hideout featured large tree adjacent cave forestmen lived. interior of set opened see inside cave , enabled more play. set included 6 forestmen minifigures, forestmen minifigures in single set. set 1 of first sets have brown colored horse. in 1988, 6054 forestmen s hideout released; small tree hideout housed 2 forestmen. following year, 6077 forestmen s river fortress, largest forestmen set, released. hideout abandoned castle covered trees, vines , leaves, surrounded moat. included 5 forestmen, , lion knight paddling raft.


in 1990, last original forestmen hideout set, 6071 forestmen s crossing, released. set had unique baseplate of small stream printed on white dots marked on studs indicate place pieces. set featured old tower , large tree connected rope bridge ran across stream. set include forestwoman minifigure. few forestmen included in other small non-forestmen castle sets, such 6103 castle mini figures. @ end of 1992, forestmen discontinued faction, along lion knights.


the forestmen considered foes other factions had knights , castles, such lion knights, black falcons, , black knights. have suggested forestmen compared robin hood , outlaws, while lion knights (with lion crest) represented king john , english throne. (in legends, robin hood did support king richard lionhearted led 1 of crusades, after richard s younger brother john succeeded throne hood declared outlaw.)


in 1996, re-make forestmen subtheme released, called dark forest, featured evil band of outlaws.
