Lacquer Chinese art by medium and technique
it during shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 bce) when sophisticated techniques used in lacquer process first developed, , became highly artistic craft. various prehistoric lacquerware have been unearthed in china dating neolithic period. earliest extant lacquer object, red wooden bowl, unearthed @ hemudu culture (c. 5000–4500 bce) site. han dynasty (206 bce – 220 ce), many centers of lacquer production had become established. knowledge of chinese methods focusing on lacquer process spread china during han, tang, , song dynasties. later on, introduced rest of world—korea, japan, southeast , south asia.
