first half

the buckeyes got off fast start when receiver ted ginn jr. returned opening kickoff 93 yards touchdown, giving ohio state 7–0 lead 16 seconds game. during celebration following return, ginn injured , miss remainder of game. gators rebounded, however, leading quick 46-yard drive score, capped off 14-yard touchdown pass chris leak dallas baker. after stuffing ohio state offense quick punt, florida drove 36 yards touchdown on 4-yard run percy harvin. on next possession, gators once again drove in score, going 71 yards on 10 plays , getting in end zone on 2-yard run deshawn wynn on first play of second quarter.


ohio state came score of own 18-yard touchdown run antonio pittman bring score 21–14. after florida field goal, ohio state coach jim tressel took gamble going fourth-and-one buckeyes own 29-yard line. gator defensive line stopped chris wells in tracks , ball turned on over downs. chris hetland, florida s much-maligned kicker 4-of-13 year, hit second field goal of night, making score 27–14, , on 2 minutes left play in half, appeared score heading break. ohio state started own 20, quarterback troy smith dropped pass , hit florida lineman jarvis moss, jarring ball loose. florida recovered on buckeye 5-yard line , punched in one-yard touchdown pass quarterback tim tebow andre caldwell. half ended , teams went off field florida leading 34–14.


second half

the second half saw more defensive game, no scoring in third quarter. gator offense used clock, while defense continued stifle ohio state s purportedly explosive attack. lone score of half came on 10 minutes left in game, when tim tebow ran in one-yard touchdown score, bringing tally 41–14, final score.


chris leak named offensive player of game, , derrick harvey earned defensive honors. gators held buckeye offense 82 total yards game, , heisman trophy winner troy smith completed 4 passes 35 yards , interception. gators dominated in time of possession, limiting ohio state offense on 19 minutes.
