st. louis scored on opening drive, marching 68 yards in 11 plays take 7–0 lead warner s 17-yard touchdown pass isaac bruce. new orleans scored 31 unanswered points, beginning 11-play, 70-yard drive ended brooks 12-yard touchdown pass robert wilson on opening drive. appeared suffer setback when brooks 50-yard completion willie jackson on next drive nullified devin bush s interception few plays later. after several punts, sammy knight s 52-yard interception return rams 20-yard line set kicker doug brien s 33-yard field goal give saints 10–7 lead @ halftime.


early in third quarter, chris oldham s interception gave new orleans ball @ rams 45-yard line, setting brooks 10-yard touchdown pass jackson increased lead 17–7. in fourth quarter, saints drove 74 yards in 5 plays , scored brooks 49-yard touchdown pass jackson. on rams ensuing drive, defensive end willie whitehead forced fumble while sacking warner linebacker la roi glover recovered on rams 16-yard line, , brooks threw 16-yard touchdown pass jackson on next play, giving saints 31–7 lead 11:57 remaining.


but st. louis stormed back, warner completed 2 passes faulk 55 yards before throwing 17-yard touchdown pass ricky proehl, cutting deficit 31–13 after two-point conversion failed. 6:28 left in game, st. louis had ball inside new orleans 10-yard line knight recorded second interception halt drive. however, saints forced punt , rams marched 62 yards on 3 plays score on faulk s 25-yard touchdown reception make 31–20 3:52 left. rams cornerback dré bly recovered ensuing onside kick. 2 plays later on third down , 6, warner completed 38-yard pass az-zahir hakim @ saints 5-yard line before took ball end zone himself 5-yard touchdown run. faulk s reception on two-point conversion made 31–28 2:36 left. st. louis failed recover second onside kick attempt forced new orleans punt. however, punt muffed hakim, , saints brian milne recovered ball seal victory.


jackson caught 6 passes 142 yards , 3 touchdowns, tying playoff record set jerry rice in super bowl xxix. warner finished game 365 passing yards , 3 touchdowns, intercepted 3 times. bruce caught 7 passes 127 yards , touchdown, while faulk added 7 catches 99 yards , touchdown.


the monday night football crew returned superdome year later cover regular season game between these teams, rams won 34–21 – last game division rivals, saints moved nfc south in 2002.
