history
the abdallah azzam brigades formed saudi national saleh al-qaraawi in 2009 offshoot of al-qaeda in iraq, , tasked hitting targets in levant , throughout middle east. qaraawi saudi citizen , on list of 85 most-wanted terrorists issued saudi interior ministry in 2009. group formally announced establishment in july 2009 video statement claiming responsibility february 2009 rocket attack against israel.
after attacks ziad al jarrah battalion, lebanese affiliate of abdullah azzam brigades, communique released clarifying brigades operated on wider scale. communique said: [the abdullah azzam brigades] not confined lebanon there targets our fires reach allah‐willing in near future...the brigades formed of number of groups spread in numerous places...and groups of ziad al‐jarrah in lebanon of our groups, , rushed create these groups , announced them because of urgency of battle jews , priority of initiative @ time , place, rest of groups outside lebanon.
in interview al-jazeera in august 2010, yemeni expert on islamic movements asserted although violent acts had been claimed groups using abdullah azzam in name, in 2009 after gaza war abdullah azzam brigades organization established.

on 7 october 2004, sinai peninsula egyptian resort of taba subject of 3 terrorist attacks targeting hotel , 2 tourist campsites. hilton taba bombing killed 31 people , wounded 159 others. ten floors of hotel collapsed following blast. 2 campsites used israelis @ ras al-shitan, near nuweiba attacked killing 2 israelis , egyptian. twelve others wounded. bombings claimed unknown group called abdullah azzam brigades. according egyptian authorities, cover mastermind behind bombings, palestinian iyad saleh. , 1 of aides, suleiman ahmed saleh flayfil died in hilton blast, apparently because bomb timer had run out fast. 3 egyptians, younes mohammed mahmoud, osama al-nakhlawi, , mohammed jaez sabbah sentenced death in november 2006 roles in blast. according investigators, there no strong link al qaeda in blasts.

pakistan
a little-known pakistani militant group, fedayeen al-islam, affiliated tehrik-i-taliban pakistan, claimed responsibility pearl continental hotel bombing in peshawar, pakistan. spokesman group, amir muawiya, phoned media organizations claiming responsibility attack , promised more attacks on way. further stated bombing in retaliation pakistan army operations in swat , malakand division of north west frontier province , tribal areas of darra adam khel , orakzai agency however, on 11 june 2009, unknown group calling abdullah azzam shaheed brigade claimed responsibility attack, saying attack in response attacks pakistani military forces on taliban insurgents in swat valley.
on 24 february 2012, alleged group equipped suicide bombers blew in attack on police station c division in heart of peshawar. according witnesses, total attackers more 10, armed hand grenades , automatic weaponry latest technology had never been used before. 2 pakistani policemen killed , 6 others injured. abdullah azzam brigade claimed responsibility attack. spokesman abu zarar said, speaking unknown location, said attack reaction killing of top militant leader, badar mansoor, in drone strike in waziristan.

lebanon
on 19 november 2013, brigade claimed responsibility double suicide bombing outside iranian embassy in beirut, killed @ least 22 people , wounded on 140. group said bombing retaliation iranian support of hezbollah, fights on syrian government s side in current syrian civil war, , warned of further attacks should iran s government not acquiesce.
on 19 february 2014, brigade carried out attack on iranian cultural center in beirut s southern suburb of bir-hasan, killing 11 , wounding 130, motive support of iran in syrian war.
arrest , death of majid al-majid
on 27 december 2013, lebanese authorities captured majid bin mohammad al-majid, saudi leader of group. al-majid had undergone kidney treatment @ makased hospital in beirut. hospital had released him , had reportedly hidden in palestinian refugee camp of ain al-hilweh, near saida. allegedly tried move elsewhere more medical treatment, captured lebanese army on beirut-damascus highway.
on 3 january 2014, dna tests confirmed man detained lebanese army intelligence majid al-majid, chief of abdullah azzam brigades. dna samples belonging relatives of majid in saudi arabia matched of suspect remained in custody of lebanese armed forces, lebanon s state national news agency reported. on 4 january, majid died of kidney failure in military hospital in beirut.
reactions
iran mohammad javad zarif, foreign minister of iran, appreciated government of lebanon arrest of al-majid , requested information investigations lebanese authorities al-majid on iranian embassy bombing.
saudi arabia adnan mansour, foreign minister of saudi arabia, rejected request government of iran participate in investigation of majed al-majed.
abdullah azzam brigades said fight continue, or without leader.
