work breakdown structure


the upper section of work breakdown structure (wbs) should identify major phases , milestones of project in summary fashion. in addition, upper section should provide overview of full scope , timeline of project , part of initial project description effort leading project approval. middle section of wbs based on 7 systems development life cycle phases guide wbs task development. wbs elements should consist of milestones , tasks opposed activities , have definitive period (usually 2 weeks or more). each task must have measurable output (e.x. document, decision, or analysis). wbs task may rely on 1 or more activities (e.g. software engineering, systems engineering) , may require close coordination other tasks, either internal or external project. part of project needing support contractors should have statement of work (sow) written include appropriate tasks sdlc phases. development of sow not occur during specific phase of sdlc developed include work sdlc process may conducted external resources such contractors.
