the first international high-speed telegraphy competition hst european championship held in moscow, russia, in 1983. 2 more hst european championships held; 1 in 1989 in hannover, germany, , in 1991 in neerpelt, belgium. first hst world championship held in siófok, hungary, in 1995. world championship has been held in every odd-numbered year since then.
most international, national, , local hst competitions held in countries of former eastern bloc. every world championship has been held in europe. while many competitors licensed amateur radio operators, there no requirement competitors have amateur radio license, , many pursue sport without one.
