Neutrino production T2K experiment
superconducting magnets under construction in 2008 veer proton beam direction of kamioka
final stage of proton beam line before target generate neutrino beam
the j-parc facility has more powerful accelerator kek facility used in k2k experiment. main synchrotron able accelerate protons 50 gev/c. protons colliding target material produce (mostly) positive pions decay antimuons , muon neutrinos. beam power expected 0.75 mw delivering 110 times more neutrino events k2k.
off-axis
the neutrino beam @ j-parc designed directed 2 3 degrees away super-kamiokande detector. lowers flux of neutrinos reaching detector provides more desirable neutrino energy spectrum. off-axis peak energy low higher energies being suppressed. @ distance between tokai , kamioka, maximal neutrino oscillation expected occur @ energies lower 1 gev.
