the 9th luftwaffe field division, 1 of several such divisions of luftwaffe (german air force), formed in october 1942 in eastern prussia, in arys troop maneuver area, under command of oberst hans erdmann. intended serve infantry, personnel largely drawn 62nd air regiment. in december 1942, assigned army group north on eastern front. posted sector near leningrad, defended frontlines on 12 months.
