the finals consist of series of 2 live shows, first featuring contestants performances , second revealing results of public voting, culminating in 1 or more acts being eliminated. celebrity guest performers feature regularly. these live shows filmed @ cbs television city in los angeles, california. performance shows broadcast on wednesday nights , results show on thursday nights. in season one, seventeen acts put through live shows, , sixteen acts put through in season two.

performances

the show concerned identifying potential pop star or star group, , singing talent, appearance, personality, stage presence , dance routines important elements of contestants performances. in initial live shows, each act performs once in first show in front of studio audience , judges, singing on pre-recorded backing track. dancers commonly featured. acts accompany on guitar or piano. each live show has had different theme; each contestant s song chosen according theme. after each act has performed, judges comment on performance. heated disagreements, involving judges defending contestants against criticism, regular feature of show. once acts have appeared, phone lines open , viewing public vote on act want keep. once number of contestants has been reduced 5 (season 1), or 6 (season 2), each act perform twice in performances show. continues until 3 acts remain. these acts go on appear in grand final decides overall winner public vote.


results
