the township of londonderry, including port of londonderry (now great village), first settled 2 groups of scots irish emigrants. first group came town of londonderry, new hampshire in 1761 whilst larger contingent had arrived in halifax in october 1761 on ship hopewell out of londonderry in ireland, settled few years later once land grants secured. both arrangements made former british army captain alexander mcnutt, formerly stationed @ nearby fort cumberland , ireland.
