Jane Blalock suspension and lawsuit 1972 LPGA Tour
after finished second round of bluegrass invitational held in louisville, kentucky, jane blalock disqualified signing incorrect scorecard. tourney director gene mcauliff said blalock did not mark ball on 17th green , failed take two-stroke penalty infraction required.
less 2 weeks later, lpga executive board suspended blalock 1 year actions inconsistent code of ethics of organization . executive board claimed blalock had been under suspicion on year, had moved ball illegally on multiple occasions , there witnesses these happenings, plus blalock had admitted guilt. twenty-seven other lpga tour players signed petition arguing probation, fine, , disqualification louisville tournament not enough punishment. lpga executive director bud erickson asked blalock feign injury avoid bad publicity refused.
fellow lpga tour golfer sandra palmer defended blalock. in addition saying had never seen blalock commit rules violations, palmer stated didn t understand why alleged infractions weren t reported @ time happened , why other players signed blalock s scorecards without reporting incidents. palmer said, if see infraction of rules, should point out immediately. don t wait until 3 years later report something. once ve signed card, re guilty person committed violation. lpga executive went on warn palmer in regards statements. palmer placed on probation 1 year lpga tour , ordered not make further statements of support jane blalock.
jane blalock filed lawsuit against lpga tour. in suit, blalock s lawyers motioned court asking blalock allowed continue playing while suit resolved. u.s. district court judge charles a. moye jr. granted motion. moye did rule money blalock earned while case being resolved placed in court trust. blalock went on win 2 more times in 1972, @ dallas civitan open , lady errol classic.
