satsuma ware or porcelain developed korean potters, came japan following japanese invasion of korea in 17th century. prince of satsuma brought potters korea, established famous kiln making pottery. ongoing patronage of prince s family, shimazu family daimyōs (feudal lords) @ time resulted in great popularity of satsuma porcelain. production of satsuma pottery no longer limited 1 area of japan. shimazu family introduced world beautiful earthenware pieces @ paris international exposition of 1867.
