the nolan brothers grew in tarrawingee, small town in country victoria, australia. nick nolan lifelong friend of bassist tim lowe, grew in tarrawingee. sam nolan met guitarist daniel bull while traveling in turkey. sam came band s name while reading e. l. doctorow s loon lake in costa rican café during travels.

in 2011, loon lake toured girls, kaiser chiefs, cage elephant, grates, jebediah , more. these support tours followed band s first national headlining tour named not friends tour, on sold out iconic melbourne venues northcote social club , ding dong lounge.
