panama s old quarter (or casco viejo, panama) features many architectural styles, spanish colonial buildings french , antillean townhouses built during construction of panama canal. more modern areas of city have many high-rise buildings, form dense skyline. there more 110 high-rise projects under construction, 127 built. city holds 45th place in world high-rise buildings count.


the centennial bridge crosses panama canal earned american segmental bridge institute prize of excellence, along 7 other bridges in americas.


neighborhoods

the city located in panama district, although metropolitan area includes populated areas on opposite side of panama canal. in rest of country, city divided corregimientos, in there many smaller boroughs. old quarter, known casco viejo, located in corregimiento of san felipe. san felipe , twelve other corregimientos form urban center of city, including santa ana, el chorrillo, calidonia, curundú, ancón, bella vista, bethania, san francisco, juan diaz, pueblo nuevo, parque lefevre, , río abajo.
