the ancient roman definition of domus consisted of living in household, included slaves. slaves constant presence in roman family. significant example wet nurses , pedagogues cared , raised children. upper class roman families included space slaves in family burial site , in exchange slaves ensured master received proper burial rites when died. common slaves manumitted, or freed, master , become dependents freedmen.
