immaculata founded villa maria college, women s college in 1920. first catholic college women in philadelphia area. name changed immaculata college in 1929.
founded sisters, servants of immaculate heart of mary, immaculata part of greater ihm community, includes neighboring house of studies , academy girls (now split 2 campuses, lower school , high school). university became co-educational in fall of 2005.
the current location of immaculata university tract of land in chester county, pennsylvania, on main line near malvern, purchased sisters in 1906. original 198-acre (0.80 km) plot has grown 373 acres (1.51 km) since time.
in june 2002, immaculata college received confirmation of university status pennsylvania department of education. effective august 2002, college known immaculata university.
