later performers of title role in french revivals included marguerite pierry, mistinguett, lise delamare , madeleine renaud. actors playing napoleon have included jean desailly , henri rollan. among best-known actors play fouché jean-louis barrault (1957).

réjane led company london in 1894, giving play in original french @ gaiety theatre 24 june 1894. duquesne (napoleon), candé (lefebvre), lérand (fouché) , verneuil (caroline of naples) repeated roles had created previous year. first british production of english translation given @ lyceum theatre in april 1897. translation j comyns carr. ellen terry starred cathérine henry irving napoleon.


the first broadway production given on 14 january 1895 in english translation @ broadway theatre on 41st street. cast, headed kathryn kidder cathérine, included james keteltas hackett neipperg. réjane later performed in premiere of original french version, , terry , irving brought production knickerbocker theatre in october 1901.


the australian premiere given mr , mrs robert brough s company @ bijou theatre, melbourne, on 26 december 1898. florence brough played cathérine, , husband played napoleon.
