in 1984, released first solo album influences, followed 1 man in 1998.


in 1999, issued collection of unused songs in form of album trash; name hinted @ rough, unpolished nature of recordings (which rejected virgin records in favour of tracks appear on 1 man album).


trash historic release issued without record company , offered fans via low-key guestbook entry, made king, on www.level42.com. using apple mac, cd burner , inkjet printer, king manufactured cd himself , posted directly fans, charging £17 plus postage. hand signed , numbered copies. not anticipating popularity of album, initial cds numbered part of series of 100. word spread of cd , king sold on 1,000 copies.


in years following trash, king repeated successful home-made formula releasing string of live recordings including live @ jazz cafe, live on isle of wight , live @ reading concert hall (which despite being performed mark king solo show, released under name of level 42 king retained rights name shortly before releasing cd). despite being contracted universal music imprint w14, king continues release live shows on own summerhouse record label, of 2007 s retroglide live dvd first.


since coming limelight in 1998 1 man , supporting uk tour, king has toured consistently around europe , far east indonesia. exception of trash, has issued 1 new professionally released studio album in 8-year period, september 2006 s retroglide under level 42 banner.


as of 2012, king still level 42 frontman , plays number of festival dates co-founder, former band member , keyboard player, mike lindup.


in 2016, mark joined supergroup gizmodrome, featuring stewart copeland, adrian belew , vittorio cosma. band released debut album in september 2017.
