peck’s coaching career began in 1993. returned home state serve assistant coach tennessee lady vols under coach pat summitt 2 seasons. lady vols posted 30-win seasons , won southeastern conference championship during both seasons: 31–2 in 1993–94, , 34–3 in 1994–95. latter team lost undefeated, rebecca lobo-led connecticut huskies in ncaa championship game, school s , head coach geno auriemma s first national championship.
peck went on serve assistant coach @ university of kentucky during 1995–96 season. after season, received assistant coaching job, time @ purdue university under nell fortner, had replaced fired lin dunn. boilermakers finished 17–11 during 1996–97 season , advanced second round of ncaa tournament. @ end of season, fortner offered position of head coach of usa women s basketball team 2000 summer olympics , leaving purdue. handed on reins of head coach peck, became purdue’s third head coach in many seasons. after time head coach , in broadcasting, in 2016 peck joined vanderbilt s women s basketball team associate head coach under stephanie white.

during peck’s first season head coach (1997–98), purdue went 23–10 elite 8 appearance. things appeared looking following season; bulk of team returning.
meanwhile, in april 1998 young wnba announced expanding ten teams twelve, 1 of new franchises based in orlando, florida. pat williams, senior executive vice president of orlando team-to-be, began search find head coach–general manager. original list of prospects had 6 candidates, including summitt, duke’s gail goestenkors , florida’s carol ross— not peck. after 6 candidates turned down offer, williams called peck upon recommendation of both ross , goestenkors. in june 1998 peck accepted job four-year contract.
despite accepting new role, peck faced dilemma: having return purdue tell team once again have play under new coach. after broke news, of players felt betrayed , angry, of them telling personally. after struggling idea of leaving purdue after 1 season coach, peck again called williams, asking him if remain @ purdue 1998–99 season , go orlando start of wnba season. granted request.
in july announced peck first head coach , general manager of orlando team (now named miracle), , coach @ purdue 1 last season.
the friction between peck , players eased, after team took preseason trip switzerland , france exhibition games. start of season, team together, , peck neither discuss fact leaving nor answer questions orlando.
led katie douglas, stephanie white , ukari figgs, boilermakers posted 28–1 record during regular season, lone loss coming 1 point against stanford. team won 1999 ncaa women s division basketball tournament (the first national championship in purdue women s basketball history; purdue men s basketball title came in 1932), winning 6 of games @ least 10 points, including 62–45 victory on duke in title game. peck became first african american coach women s division basketball national championship team; has since been joined dawn staley, coached south carolina 2017 national championship. peck named women’s basketball coach of year associated press, becoming first woman , first african american win winged foot award (which honored best coach in college basketball) new york athletic club. 2 weeks after guiding purdue title, peck in orlando preparing miracle upcoming season.
peck awarded basketball writers association (usbwa) coach of year, wbca coach of year, ap college basketball coach of year , naismith college coach of year awards in 1999.
to date, peck, @ 33 years old, youngest coach women’s division basketball national championship team. title 1 in women’s college basketball member of big ten conference.

during peck’s 3 seasons wnba coach, miracle, featured shannon johnson, taj mcwilliams-franklin, nykesha sales , fellow vanderbilt graduate sheri sam, posted 44–52 record, narrowly missing out on playoffs in 1999 , qualifying them in 2000, lost cleveland rockers 2 games 1.

on april 3, 2002, peck returned coaching college basketball, time leading florida gators women s basketball team of university of florida.
during 5 seasons @ florida (2002–03 through 2006-07), gators posted 72–75 record 2 ncaa tournament berths. 2003–04 team, posted 19–11 record after going 9–19 season before, eliminated baylor in second round of 2004 ncaa tournament, after defeating new mexico in first round before 16,029 fans @ albuquerque. 2005–06 team posted 21–7 record , received no. 6 seed in ncaa tournament, time new mexico got revenge on florida, defeating them 24 points in first round.
the 2006–07 season disaster—the gators suffered through 14-game losing streak , finished 9–22. following losing streak, university fired peck in february allowed finish season coach. former florida gators player amanda butler replaced peck 2007–08 season. peck not out of basketball long, however: espn hired basketball analyst within months.
after 9 year of working espn, peck hired alma mater (vanderbilt) assistant coach in june 2016.
