the original apolda station destroyed great fire on night of 24/25 september 1884.
the royal railway division of (königliche eisenbahndirektion) of erfurt decided build shed on town side of railway yard, in order accommodate various offices , dining facilities there. half-timbered building came roßlau, part of dessau-rosslau , located in saxony-anhalt. temporary building demolished , reconstructed in apolda. temporary station building, located between present station , goods yard, commissioned on sunday, 14 december 1884. 2 years later plan new station building presented railway division of erfurt. action had been preceded numerous reminders , complaints citizens , traders no longer willing accept bad connection rail network. 3 years later, on 4 february 1889, construction of new station started on foundations of walls of old, burned-down station. 12 august of same year, construction of central building prefabricated, , afterwards delivered apolda. new station opened on 1 april 1890. building built entirely of sandstone, in style mixture of german , italian neo-renaissance. decorated small towers , ornamental gables.

between 1905 , 1908, platforms’ surfaces covered , canopies installed. happened result of petition town of apolda railway division of erfurt. in 1906 underpass built between both platforms. in first world war, railway used war service centre, barracks built. during period, lavatory block established. demolished @ turn of year of 1922/1923 because of excessive odour.
one of special features of interior of building, built of clinker brick, decoration signs symbolism of freemasonry, of star of david, not traditional symbol of lodge. significance of symbol still unclear.
