keith arthur murdoch, later sir keith murdoch, born in west melbourne , grew in melbourne suburb of camberwell. became prominent journalist, while serving war correspondent during world war i. in 1921, murdoch appointed chief editor of melbourne herald , in 1928 became managing director of parent company, herald , weekly times ltd. same year married elisabeth joy greene (1909–2012), later prominent philanthropist dame elisabeth murdoch ac, dbe (1909–2012). murdoch knighted in 1933. during world war ii, sir keith murdoch served briefly in australian government role, director-general of information.
lieutenant ivon george murdoch mc , bar, saw action 8th battalion (aif) on western front during world war i. ivon murdoch achieved rare distinction of twice being awarded military cross (mc) bravery; first resulted him leading extended night patrols, during march , april 1918, south-east of ypres in no man s land , behind german lines, captured pillbox , returned wounded men australian positions. second mc awarded actions during august 1918 that: defended captured german field guns near rosieres and; set machine gun enfilade, during battle of lihons (part of hundred days offensive). after war, ivon murdoch farmer @ wantabadgery, new south wales.
the children of andrew chrystal murdoch , annie murdoch (née esler) included prominent concert pianist, william david murdoch (born 1888, bendigo, victoria – died 1942, holmbury st mary, england),
a daughter of sir walter , violet murdoch, dr catherine king (née murdoch) mbe (born 1904, surrey hills, victoria – died 2000), pioneering radio broadcaster in western australia.
