the british armed forces utilise 2 circular non-reflecting stainless steel tags engraved big 6 :



the disks suspended 1 long chain (24 inches long) , 1 short chain (4.5 inches long)


during world war 1 , two, service personnel issued pressed fiber identity disks, 1 green octagonal shaped disc, , red round disc (some army units issued second red round disk attached service respirator). identity disks hand stamped surname, initials, service number , religion of holder , if in royal air force, initials raf. disks worn around neck on 38 length of cotton cord, replaced wearer leather bootlace. 1 tag suspended below main tag.


the fibre identity disks in raf still in use in 1999.


from 1960 these replaced stainless steel id tags on green nylon cord, 2 circular , 1 oval. oval withdrawn around 1990.
