the story, cask of amontillado , 1 of poe s revenge tales, in murderer apparently escapes without punishment. in cask of amontillado , victim wears motley; in hop-frog , murderer dons such attire. however, while cask of amontillado told murderer s point of view, hop-frog told unidentified third-person narrator s point of view.


the grating of hop-frog s teeth, right after hop-frog witnesses king splash wine in trippetta s face, , again before hop-frog sets 8 men on fire, may symbolic. poe used teeth sign of mortality, lips writhing teeth of mesmerized man in facts in case of m. valdemar or obsession teeth in berenice .
