biography
early success

in late 1970s, don dokken playing in los angeles-based band called airborn, , had opportunity reach record deal in germany. after seeing band xciter, , future bandmates george lynch , mick brown, knew complete band land record deal. although lynch , brown not interested in joining forces him when first contacted them, went ahead germany. don, of 1 of xciter s songs, did record deal, , convinced lynch , brown, along bassist juan croucier, join him in dokken after received it.


during time in germany, dokken befriended german band scorpions, , sang them in rehearsals blackout album while lead vocalist klaus meine being treated nodes on vocal cords. meine recovered , returned record album.


in 1983, america saw release of first dokken album, breaking chains had moderate reception. juan croucier left band join ratt. jeff pilson brought in second release, tooth , nail, , @ time metal fans , critics began take notice of band. don s strong, melodic vocals, coupled lynch s blazing guitar playing, guided dokken national fame.


solo release

in late 1980s, however, personal tension between dokken , lynch took toll on band. in 1988, after monsters of rock tour , further platinum album, don dokken decided break band , went on separate ways. don dokken wanted continue on dokken name, since lynch maintained partial ownership, forced put out next album under don dokken name, , became known first solo album. album, titled ashes, released in 1990, , similar dokken catalog. project supergroup of sorts, made of guitarists john norum (of europe fame) , billy white (of watchtower fame), bassist peter baltes (of accept fame), , drummer mikkey dee (of king diamond , motörhead).


both dee , baltes had been members of dokken during late 1970s brief periods. 2 music videos made singles mirror mirror , stay . also, during late 1980s , 1990s, don spent time producer metal band xyz.


he made guest appearance on german progressive metal band vanden plas s spirit of live album vocalist live performance of dokken s kiss of death studio version can found on vanden plas s far off grace album.


dokken reunion

around late 1993, don started talk mick brown, had left george lynch s new group, lynch mob. joined jeff pilson, , started write new songs. in 1994, sent had written george lynch, impressed material. together, decided reunite , tour again. reunion lasted 3 years , resulted in 2 new dokken albums, acoustic live disc, , full live concert recorded in japan in 1995.


in late-1990s, dokken once again parted ways george lynch, gained guitarist reb beach, , later kicked off new era guitarist john norum after departure of reb beach. union didn t last long norum departed re-unite europe. norum briefly replaced italian guitarist alex de rosso live tour [1] until don managed find permanent replacement , in 2003 guitarist/lawyer jon levin filled position continues day @ don s side.


since 1994, dokken has released 6 studio albums, 2 live albums, greatest hits album, first 2 dvds. don dokken released new solo album titled solitary in 2008 , dokken released new album titled lightning strikes again during same year. on march 1, 2010, band dokken s second greatest hits album, aptly titled greatest hits, digitally released itunes , amazon.com. physical album additional tracks set release king records (japan) on april 21, 2010 , available in united states through cleopatra records @ later date.


on september 22, 2010, in interview bravewords.com, don dokken revealed undergoing vocal surgery, correct problems nodes , tears in vocal chords. [2] february 4, 2011 anchorage, alaska dokken s first show since surgery.
