kansas city home largest municipal government in state of missouri. city has council/manager form of government. role of city manager has diminished on years. non-elective office of city manager created following excesses during pendergast days. mayor head of kansas city city council, has 12 members (one member each district, plus 1 @ large member per district). mayor presiding member. kansas city holds city elections in every fourth odd numbered year. last citywide election held in may 2015. officials took office in august 2015 , hold position until 2019.
