uttarakhand legislative assembly elections, 2002 first vidhan sabha (legislative assembly) elections held in state. indian national congress emerged largest party 36 seats in 70-seat legislature whereas bharatiya janata party secured second place 19 seats. veteran congress leader n. d. tiwari chosen new chief minister.



2nd assembly election 2007



















uttarakhand state assembly elections, 2007 second vidhan sabha (legislative assembly) elections held in state. bharatiya janata party emerged single largest party 34 seats in 70-seat legislature. 1 seat short of forming majority, bjp had rely on support of uttarakhand kranti dal , 3 independents form government. former union minister b c khanduri became new chief minister. indian national congress official opposition, holding 21 seats.













3rd assembly election 2012



















uttarakhand had turned out incumbent governments in first 2 elections held in state since formation. ruling bharatiya janata party fought election under leadership of chief minister b c khanduri. main opposition indian national congress led in assembly harak singh rawat, no chief ministerial candidate named before elections. interim tenure of former chief minister ramesh pokhriyal, marked large-scale corruption accusations, main election issue.


the elections took place on 30 january, results being announced on 6 march. in closely contested election, indian national congress emerged single largest party 32 seats followed bharatiya janata party 31 seats. notably incumbent chief minister bc khanduri lost seat. vijay bahuguna appointed chief minister despite him not being member of legislative assembly. later on won byelections held seats of sitarganj. detailed result given below:













4th assembly election 2017



















uttarakhand state assembly elections, 2017 fourth vidhan sabha (legislative assembly) elections held in state. bharatiya janata party riding on popularity of prime minister narendra modi, secured landslide victory, winning 57 of total 70 seats. ruling indian national congress reduced low of 11 seats, incumbent chief minister harish rawat himself losing both seats had contested from. although bjp had not projected chief ministerial candidate, trivendra singh rawat chosen new chief minister after elections.
