early history

in 1879, following death of parish priest of union parish of clontarf in 1878, divided, , 2 new unions created, 1 designated parish of fairview, taking in ancient parishes of drumcondra, glasnevin, santry , artaine, , new union parish of clontarf, comprising clontarf, raheny, coolock , killester.
on death of parish priest, archdeacon o neill, in 1909, parish divided again, new union of coolock , raheny (including killester, , chaplaincy of artaine industrial school attached) erected, first parish priest of entity being patrick doyle.
the raheny national schools complex built between 1953 , 1958, replacing older schools, except springdale national school.
on 29 march 1954, raheny parish committee under union parish priest fr. w.j. fitzpatrick launched raheny newsletter, keep locals apprised of work of committee , priests, , discuss both local history , future planning. noted area held 280 catholic families (around 1200 people), new st. anne s development bring around 600 more households, , followed dublin corporation work in edenmore , kilbarrack. not clear how long newsletter survived.
in 1955, 2 new unions formed, 1 comprising raheny , killester, other being designated coolock-artane.
in late 1950s, edenmore locality of raheny began develop new centre of population , in 1960s, parish developed schools , church there.
in january 1960, parish launched memorable magazine acorn, documented work , great deal of local history. editor of acorn local resident , journalist laurence joseph mccullagh, known joe mccullagh, lived on st. assams rd. archive of journal held @ raheny library.
from 1966 present
on 1 july 1966, raheny , killester reemerged separate parishes, though changed old boundaries, , edenmore organised further parish, taking in land coolock-artane parish also.
raheny reduced in scale erection of grange park new parish in 1971 , in turn, donaghmede parish formed northern area of in 1974. later changes included development of foxfield-st. john (begun in 1971 bayside, division of kilbarrack part of large union, took in ancient territories of howth , sutton, baldoyle, named) new parish, later renamed kilbarrack-foxfield.
in july 2007, edenmore , grange park parishes placed under single parish priest.
